“Life is 90% mental, yet most organizations focus on the remaining 10% or the technical skills. Mental resilience isn’t a luxury; it’s a leadership necessity. We must shift the focus from just tasks to the people doing them.”
— Lizette Beri
Continuing from last week’s blog, we’re excited to share more highlights from the BFCA Team’s recent interview at YFM. This segment focused on a crucial question many leaders and business owners face:
How can a business boost productivity and become more resilient in high-pressure environments?
Here’s a snapshot of that powerful discussion:
🎙️ Host: As a business owner or professional, how are we able to boost productivity or be better leaders? Especially in high-pressure environments. What does it take to stay mentally fit and resilient?
💬 Michael Adjei: For any business, leadership should recognize that the organization is a community. One that is made up of diverse individuals. To ensure productivity and long-term continuity, leaders must tailor their strategies to meet the needs of their people.
When this mindset is in place, it becomes easier to support employees. And that support shows in their work which leads to real progress in the business. It all starts at the top. Leadership’s concern for individuals creates a ripple effect throughout the entire organization.
🎙️ Host: I wasn’t expecting that answer! I thought we’d hear about some quick mental exercises, but what you shared is powerful. It’s about changing how we think.
💬 Lizette Beri: Life is 90% mental, yet most organizations focus only on the remaining 10% or the technical skills. They evaluate performance based solely on completed tasks, overlooking the emotional and psychological aspects of work.
We help bridge that gap by training teams in skills that support the mental 90%, enabling people to be more present, focused, and productive, not just in what they do, but how they show up each day.
Lizette continued by noting that:
- Employees may be physically present but mentally distracted by personal issues.
- Leaders often overlook this, focusing only on things liked missed deadlines instead of what’s going on beneath the surface.
- One of our studies showed that 3 hours of true focus can produce more than an entire distracted 8-hour day.
That’s why it’s critical for leaders to build a culture of mental resilience. Not just surface-level awareness, but real training. Mental toughness is a skill and like any skill, it must be taught and developed.
🎙️ Host: So, you actually train workforces to be mentally resilient? That’s what your programs focus on?

💬 Lizette Beri: Exactly! We have two core programs for businesses:
- Workplace Productivity Program – Enhances employee performance, engagement, and motivation.
- Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace Program – Teaches staff to recognize and respond to signs of mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, or substance misuse.
We’re not just training people for tasks. We’re preparing them to thrive in the real world of work.
✨ Final Thoughts
The conversation was a powerful reminder that productivity starts with people and supporting the mental health of your team isn’t just good for morale, it’s smart business.
